Things I Control: A Teacher’s Perspective

As a Teacher in America right now, I feel that everything is out of control.  We are being pushed  to teach our kids 2 years ahead so they can catch up to the 2 years they lost. Districts are changing and adding extra curriculum to our already heavy curriculum.  We are in meetings almost everyday afterschool. Students have no idea how to do school anymore. Teachers are overworked, overwhelmed and underpaid. These are things I cannot control. So let’s not focus on those.

Let’s focus on the things I can control.  Things that make me happy and bring me peace. I invite everyone to create their own list, but here is mine to help you get started.

Things I can control:

Morning

Workout (walk and weights) I do virtual (www.dfittransformation.com – great program)

Meditation (devotion-Jesus Calling, Bible and Prayer

School (teaching and loving on my littles)-doing my best

Afternoon

Workout (Abs-laying on the floor(it releases stress) and boxing)

Reading my favorite non-school book and having my favorite drink (if real stressed)

Night

Meditation (write down and circle prayers in my notebook, Prayer-thanking God for my day and giving it to Him)

Sleep in Peace

Everyday is a NEW DAY filled with renewed strength! Isaiah 40:31 says: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Find what you can control, find what makes you happy and brings you peace. It can be as simple as your favorite food or drink. Whatever it is, enjoy it at that moment. Then know that tomorrow is a new start, not a continuation of yesterday. So leave it behind and be in control today!
